How to get rid of gas in a baby?

Belching or gas

When babies feed they may swallow a little air that makes them uncomfortable. It may occur more frequently when they are bottle-fed than when they are breast-fed.

When this happens, it is important to stop feeding and try to help them expel this air.

It is important to take a break while feeding the baby to burp the baby and get rid of gas. If we are breastfeeding, we do it when we change breasts, if we do it with a bottle, it is advisable to do it every 2 or 3 ounces.

We can do it in different ways:

  1. We place the baby in a vertical position, resting his head on our shoulder, we move our hand along the back from the bottom up, applying gentle pressure or gently tapping it.
  2. We sit the baby on our lap, we hold his chest and head with one hand and with the other we perform gentle strokes on his back.
  3. We lay the baby face down on our lap, placing his head a little higher than his chest. We gently hit or make circles with our hand on the back.
