Accident prevention
If there was a word that summarizes everything related to the safety of our children it would be: Prevention. The safety of children and the creation of basic safety habits in them depends on parents and caregivers. The vast majority of children's accidents occur at home and always under the supervision of an adult. These accidents can cause disabilities, loss of health, or even be fatal.
95% of accidents with children are preventable!
Below, we present the most common accidents and how to prevent them:
-
Asphyxia due to immersion or suffocation
- Asphyxiation by immersion can occur in buckets, bathtubs, swimming pools, and toilets. Suffocation occurs with curtain cords, plastic bags, small toys, crib rails, food and other similar items.
- Do not allow children to handle small objects. Important: Any object that passes through the toilet paper tube is prohibited for children under 3 years of age.
- Do not offer whole foods such as nuts, candies, olives, grapes or similar.
- Children should not play, run, laugh or talk while eating as they may choke.
- Teach children that putting small objects in their mouths can be dangerous.
- Children should not play with bags, bombs or latex objects.
- Do not leave buckets, punch bowls or containers of water. Important: 5 cm of water can be fatal.
- Keep toilets with lids closed.
- Always supervise children when they are near water, especially in swimming pools.
